This entry is part 5 of 5 in the series Being Grounded

In the first post in this series on Being Grounded, I defined being grounded as a state of relaxed skeletal balance where the forces generated by the weight of your body pass cleanly through your skeleton into the ground, and supporting forces from the ground are transmitted back up through your skeleton. I’ve recently released a DVD titled Living in Gravity exploring what that means experientially.

The DVD contains a half-day workshop exploring balance in sitting, standing, and walking, and in transition between them. Excerpts from the workshop that lay out this line of development are shown here.

The full DVD, which develops and explores these experiences in much greater depth, is slightly over two hours long and costs $35. It should be of interest to anyone wanting a deeper experience of their relationship with the ground and of the ideas discussed in this blog series.

The workshop took place in the morning, followed by an afternoon of advanced training for the Feldenkrais practitioners who attended. This training built on and extended material from the workshop, with additional focus on deepening the sensitivity with which practitioners connect to and interact with their clients and the changes that can produce in theĀ Functional Integration experience for both practitioner and client. The professional edition of Living in Gravity includes a second DVD on Skeletal Support in Functional Integration containing that training. This edition costs $70, and should be value to Feldenkrais and other somatic practitioners interested in better understanding how to facilitate grounding and skeletal support in their practices.
